Preventing and treating aging skin
Our ingredients have been shown to treat signs of sun-induced skin aging, including skin discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles. However, improvement is gradual and will take months. If you’re looking for dramatic improvement right away, you may want to consider laser treatment or chemical peels.
Some custom mixes include tretinoin, the active ingredient in Retin-A™. Retin-A™ is FDA-approved for acne treatment and only available by prescription.
Evidence shows that tretinoin can reduce wrinkles and brown spots in patients who use comprehensive skin care and sunlight avoidance programs.
If your dermatology provider thinks tretinoin is right for your treatment, we’ll include it in your Curology formula.
Some Curology formulas include niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, which acts like an antioxidant. Niacinamide reduces inflammation and may reduce red and brown pigmentation. Studies show that niacinamide can improve the outer skin’s barrier function, decrease skin hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, decrease redness/blotchiness, decrease yellowness (sallowness), and improve skin elasticity.
Azelaic acid is another active ingredient that may show up in your Curology mix. Azelaic acid can reduce unwanted pigmentation in the skin, so it’s helpful for treating brown spots that acne leaves behind.
Another anti-inflammatory ingredient commonly used in our formulas is clindamycin, which can help with redness. Clindamycin is popular because it helps prevent acne bacterium from triggering your pores to make excess sebum (oil). Many experts recommend combining this with other ingredients such as tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and azelaic acid.
