Our base (inactive) ingredients have been specifically formulated to work well with our active ingredients and to be non-pore-clogging. Our mixes have a pH of approximately 4-5 (although the pH varies by formulation), and are free of any added fragrances. Curology formulas are cruelty-free and are never tested on animals.
The base for our custom prescription formulas with 3 active ingredients contains: aloe barbadensis leaf juice, C13-14 isoparaffin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, deionized water, laureth-7, phenoxyethanol, polyacrylamide, tocopheryl acetate, triethylene glycol.
All formulas containing tretinoin also contain the antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and formulas containing both niacinamide and azelaic acid may also contain propylene glycol.
The Dark Spot Formula:

The cleanser & our moisturizers:
Our dermatologists designed both the cleanser and moisturizer to be simple and non-clogging — they have everything you need, and nothing extra.
Our cleanser will leave your face feeling fresh, clean, and ready for the next step. The combination of plant sugars creates a unique barrier effect that locks moisture into skin, keeping you naturally hydrated. Plus, your skin may look calmer or less irritated, thanks to a soothing, anti-inflammatory oat extract. It has a pH of 5.5-6.5 and is gluten-free, paraben-free, oil-free and fragrance-free. It also does not contain salicylic acid. The full ingredients for our cleanser are listed below:

Your skin will feel soft and hydrated right after you apply our moisturizer, but there are long-term benefits too! One of the key ingredients is hyaluronic acid, which helps skin retain moisture over time. We wanted this moisturizer to be for day and night, so we left out the SPF. You’ll want to layer a sunscreen over the moisturizer in the daytime. It has a pH of 4.8-5.8 and is gluten-free, paraben-free, oil-free, and fragrance-free. The Curology spot patch:
You can also find the full ingredients list below:
Copolymer, Resin, Mineral Oil, Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), Hindered Phenolic Antioxidant
A couple of things to note…
The resin is derived from wood rosin. Rosin is also known as colophony, and it is obtained from pines and some other plants. The spot patches may not be a good option for you if you have allergic reactions to adhesive products including bandages. Please note that the mineral oil is used as a processing aid and is added in a small concentration to enable the coating process .
The acne body wash:
Our key ingredient is salicylic acid (aka BHA, or beta hydroxy acid), which is great at dislodging the dead skin cells that accumulate in your pores, encouraging exfoliation and preventing the buildup of sebum and debris that can trigger acne breakouts. Our perfectly calibrated 2% formula does the job without tending to irritate healthy skin. Another benefit of salicylic acid is that it also helps decrease inflammation! You can read more about BHAs in our guide.

To patch test a product that’s meant to be left on (like a moisturizer), apply a small amount of one product on your right inner elbow. If you are testing another product, apply it on another spot on your forearm closer to the wrist. Do this on your left arm if you are testing additional products. If you are patch testing a cleanser, rub it in well for 5 min then rinse off. Do this twice daily for seven days.
A red, itchy rash to a specific area would be suspicious for allergy to that specific product. If you have no reaction, go ahead and try on a limited area of your face (or body for any body products).
